As well as traditional Thai Yoga massage techniques we also offer 2 more specialised techniques that benefit the whole body.

Tok Sen Massage Technique

Tok Sen is an ancient form of massage technique believed to have originated from Buddhist Monks and the farming population of Northern Thailand.  After a hard day’s work, farmers were in desperate need of a massage, they had the knowledge but not the resources.  Using their knowledge they developed the tools to apply massage to their aching limbs.

Tok Sen consists of a wooden hammer and stick, the Tok refers to the striking action used and the Sen refers to the energy pathways in the body.  By striking the stick on the muscle area, you create vibrations that ripple through the area and help release blockages along the energy lines.  This allows a free flow of energy throughout the body thereby speeding up the healing process.

Although this technique sounds painful it is in fact the complete opposite. The rhythmical action is very soothing and gentle and can be applied to many clients whatever conditions they may have.

Chi Nei Tsang Massage Technique

This form of massage stems from the ancient roots of Chinese Medicine.  Its main focus is on the five elements or forces of the Universe.  It is believed that by balancing these elements/energies we promote good health.  The word ‘Chi’ refers to the energy within the body and the literal translation of Chi Nei Tsang is ‘working with the energy of the internal organs’.

We often develop (energy) blockages within our internal organs resulting in knots and tangles in the abdomen. These blockages occur in the centre of the body’s vital functions and constrict the flow of energy (chi), our life force.  The negative emotions of fear, anger, anxiety, depression and worry can cause these blockages.  These can also be caused by overwork, stress, accidents, surgery, bad nutrition, drugs, toxins etc.

When obstructed the internal organs store unhealthy energy that can overflow into other bodily systems and surface as negative emotions, sickness or disease.  Abdominal Chi Massage helps to recycle and transform negative energies that obstruct the internal organs and cleanses the body of toxins, stuck emotions and excessive heat or heat differences that cause the organs to dysfunction.

  • Detoxifies and cleanses the internal organs
  • Relieves tensions and abdominal pains, removes “knots” in the abdomen
  • Restores life-force, vital energy
  • Improves digestion
  • Boosts blood circulation, delivers oxygen and nutrients to the organs and systems
  • Provides regular elimination of wastes from the lymphatic and circulatory systems
  • Eases breathing
  • Releases physiological and emotional blocks
  • Recovers and strengthens weak or damaged organs
  • Relieves PMS
  • Corrects chronic structural problems
  • Extends longevity by rejuvenating and balancing of organs and glands
  • Strengthens the immune system

We wouldn’t recommend this as a first massage, as we like to get to know the client first, and assess fully whether this is an appropriate massage for them.  We do sometimes incorporate some of the techniques within a full body Thai Massage.  Please feel free discuss this massage technique with us.
